Celebrating Life Through Divine Worship

10:00 AM, November 21, 2010

The time of centering: We use this time to make the transition between “getting here” and “being here.” Take these few minutes of quiet time to get in touch with the calm places, the still, deep places in you; the spirit. Relax your body; quiet the inner dialogue of you mind. Focus on feeling, on being. Be receptive to your center – your reservoir of inner peace, strength, love. Be aware of being with others. Feel the spirit of the community. Welcome………..

PRELUDE

ENTRANCE OF THE LIGHT

INVOCATION

For the living of these days let us heed promptings of possibility to serve you, let us evoke creativities of compassion for those who are hungry, let us be poised for flight on soaring wings of faith and love. O come, let us worship!

WELCOME

*SONGS OF PRAISE                  “He is Exalted” & “Awesome God”

*CALL US TOGETHER

LEADER: Merciful Lord, through the bounty of the sea and the richness of the land, you provide for the needs of all your people, yet not all people get their fair share.

PEOPLE: Not so very far from this place, there are people who are faint for lack of nourishment. There are children who go to bed hungry and wake up hungrier still.

LEADER: Closer than we think there are people in pain without medicines because they cannot afford them.

PEOPLE: Very likely, within sight of this building, there are people who are beside themselves with worry over how they will keep a roof over their head and food on the table.

LEADER: The poor and hungry are often invisible. Unless someone collapses on our doorstep we assume all’s well.

PEOPLE: Help us, Lord to have a sense of your power at work through us that we will dare to make a difference in this community.

LEADER: Show us how and where we may put into action the love we have freely received from you.

PEOPLE: Send us to serve those who need a sign of hope in their lives. Help us provide warmth and shelter to those who shiver on our streets at night

LEADER: Open our hearts and hands to those forced to hunt for their dinner in dumpsters.

ALL: Unite the citizens of our community in strategies that will give our neighbors the chance to work and to prosper with your blessing. In the name of Jesus, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

The entire congregation is invited to the Hanging of the Green on Monday, November 29th from 5 to 9 pm.  Drop in any time during those 4 hours, and if you want to eat with us, be there at 7 pm.  This is our day to decorate the church in preparation for Christmas.  Children are welcome.  They can make decorations for the children's tree such as links, popcorn strings and ornaments.  The other trees, garland and banner are going up as well.  Join in the fun as we "deck the hall".

SAVE A DATE FOR NUMANA

The Smithville UMC has signed up to work with NUMANA and several area churches to package meals.  We will need several volunteers to work 2 hour shifts thru out the day.  Volunteers can be young (5-6) to the very mature. This would be a great project to do as a family, a group of friends or any organization that you may be a part of i.e. Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Chamber of Commerce, you get the idea. NUMANA provides meals to countries that are in need of help.  We will be packaging meals for Haiti.   This is a great community service project. It is super simply to do and a lot of fun as well.  We will be providing more information next month. So please mark your calendar for January 8, 2011. The location will at the Lewis and Clark Elementary School 1407 Nashua Road, Liberty, MO  64068.  We will have a sign-up located at the church bulletin board.  This is really a great project and a great way to start your New Year.
