Celebrating Life Through Divine Worship

10:00 AM, November 14, 2010

The time of centering: We use this time to make the transition between “getting here” and “being here.” Take these few minutes of quiet time to get in touch with the calm places, the still, deep places in you; the spirit. Relax your body; quiet the inner dialogue of you mind. Focus on feeling, on being. Be receptive to your center – your reservoir of inner peace, strength, love. Be aware of being with others. Feel the spirit of the community. Welcome!

PRELUDE

ENTRANCE OF THE LIGHT

INVOCATION

We have come to encounter the Word that calls us into communion

with God and with each other and calls us into discipleship to carry on Christ’s work in our world. So we come together here, joining hands in the great quest: To worship God, to love each other, and to serve the world.

WELCOME

*SONGS OF PRAISE               “Great is the Lord” & “He is Exalted”

*CALL US TOGETHER

LEADER: Jesus Christ was born homeless, of transient parents.

PEOPLE: Mary “laid him in a manger, because there was no

place for them in the inn.”

LEADER: Jesus Christ knew what it meant to have no place to call

                        his own.

PEOPLE: “Jesus said, ‘Foxes have holes and birds have nests,

but I have nowhere to lay my head.’”

LEADER: Providing adequate shelter at a reasonable price to people

in need is a ministry to Christ.

PEOPLE: “Inasmuch as you serve them, you are serving Christ.”

LEADER: The validity of our faith is demonstrated by our actions.

     PEOPLE: What can we do?

ALL:         We can reach out with our prayers, with our gifts, and

with shared labor to those in need of adequate shelter,

                       trusting God for the increase.

To get started consider answering: What is a favorite Christmas memory?  What Christmas traditions does your family celebrate?  How does celebrating Christmas bring you closer to God?  Using the Upper Room format might also be helpful.

Submission of entries grants permission to publish.  Entries must be original to the author and not published before.  Please limit entries to 400 words.

SAVE A DATE FOR NUMANA

The Smithville UMC has signed up to work with NUMANA and several area churches to package meals.  We will need several volunteers to work 2 hour shifts thru out the day.  Volunteers can be young (5-6) to the very mature. This would be a great project to do as a family, a group of friends or any organization that you may be a part of i.e. Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Chamber of Commerce, you get the idea. NUMANA provides meals to countries that are in need of help.  We will be packaging meals for Haiti.   This is a great community service project. It is super simply to do and a lot of fun as well.  We will be providing more information next month. So please mark your calendar for January 8, 2011. The location will at the Lewis and Clark Elementary School 1407 Nashua Road, Liberty, MO  64068.  We will have a sign-up located at the church bulletin board.  This is really a great project and a great way to start your New Year.
