Celebrating Life through Divine Worship
October 9, 2011
The time of centering: (Based on the writings of Claire A. Smith)
We dream of a loving world where we see each other with your eyes. We dream of a resourceful world where we cherish the unique gift of each person. We dream of a hopeful world where we recognize the power of your grace to transform and make new. We dream of Peace.
PRELUDE Worship begins as the music is played
ENTRANCE OF THE LIGHT
INVOCATION
Lord, we come before you today knowing what it is that you require of us but wondering how to achieve these things you ask of us. As we continue to ask ourselves how to better serve you and one another, guide us in making the right choices, support us as we work to follow those decisions, and encourage us so that we may always be striving to be peace makers. Amen.

CALL TO WORSHIP
LEADER: Jesus
announced the coming of God’s reign – a commonwealth not of dominion but of
peace, justice, and reconciliation.
PEOPLE: Peace,
justice, and reconciliation – we are called to follow this path in our world
announcing God’s love.
LEADER: He healed the sick and fed the hungry.
PEOPLE: Healing and nourishment – we are called to engage in
justice and to fairly share the resources of our world with all.
LEADER: He forgave sins and freed those held captive
by all manners of crushing powers.
PEOPLE: Forgiveness and acceptance – we are called to engage with others in seeking reconciliation – hearing one another’s pain and to see God’s presence in all.
LEADER: He crossed barriers of race, class, culture, and gender.
PEOPLE: Diversity and difference – we are called to enter into relationship with one another: to struggle with our fear of the unknown and to celebrate and embrace the uniqueness of God’s creation.
LEADER: He preached and practiced unconditional love – love of God, love of neighbor, love of friend, love of enemy.
LEADER: And He commanded his followers to love one another as he loved them.
ALL: We are called to follow Christ – on the path of love and compassion. We are called to be seekers of justice, makers of peace, singers of faith – To be the peace of God in this world. Amen.
