Celebrating Life through Divine Worship

Fourth Sunday after Pentecost

10:00 AM     July 10, 2011

The time of centering:

Welcome!  May the joy of new birth, the transformational power of new visions, and the burning love of Christ make all of your days a Pentecost of hope.  We are called to be Spirited people, powerful as the wind in doing God’s will, energetic as fire in extending the love of Christ.  Let us be dreamers of dreams, builders of understanding, makers of peace, servants of God’s love and grace, this day and every day…

PRELUDE                                    Worship begins as the music is played

ENTRANCE OF THE LIGHT

INVOCATION

Merciful God, Just God, Faithful God, God of blessing, and God of visions and dreams, we come to you for a moment of quiet in our self-made busyness.  We come to you for energy in our weariness.  We come to you for challenge when we are willing to settle for our own small dreams and plans.  Enter, Spirit of God, into each of our lives and enliven us; enter, Spirit of God, into our community and enable us to love and serve you and all your children.  Amen.

CALL TO WORSHIP

LEADER:   Thanks be to God who has called us into service and enlisted us in new visions and dreams.

PEOPLE:  We have been shown much mercy since we enrolled as pilgrims in the faith.

LEADER:   Let us surge forward as comrades in the company of Christ; let us make preparations for a spiritual journey of service.
PEOPLE:   We do not know just what we may encounter.  The mysteries of God are many and the will of God is often hard to track.
LEADER:  Christ’s presence will transform and strengthen us, wherever our journeys of service take us.
PEOPLE:   We welcome the fires of the Holy Spirit, the refreshing wind of God’s surprising grace.
ALL:    We are ready to map out new visions.  We are ready to serve God and love all of his children.  Amen

Unison Prayer

O Holy God, we come in quest of guidance and courage to fulfill new visions and dreams of service in your name.  We have passed by suffering and misfortune because of fear or busyness or preoccupation.  Prepare us for your service.  Allow us to join your labor to heal the hurting, feed the hungry, and bring good news to the poor and lonely.  Humble us with your truth and raise us by your grace that we may more nearly be your people and the witness of your Spirit.  Amen
