The time of centering: O God, make the door of this house wide enough to receive all who need human love and fellowship, narrow enough to shut out envy, pride and strife. Make its threshold smooth enough to be no stumbling block to children nor to straying feet, but rugged and strong enough to turn back evils’ power. God, make the door of this house the gateway to your eternal kingdom.

Wondrous God, our hearts are full of praise for all of the glorious things you have given to us. When we look upon your creation, we realize that it reflects your glory. When we experience the gift of a parents’ love, we are reminded of your tender love for us. When we worship in the great congregation of all who name you as Lord, we are blessed to be counted among your children. Hear our prayer of joy and thanksgiving this day and sustain in us grateful hearts, that we might praise you eternally. Through Christ our Lord, Amen.

Gracious God, our heavenly Father, we humbly thank you for all your gifts so freely given: for life and health and safety, for work and rest and friendship, and for the wonder of creation. Above all, we praise you for our Savior, Jesus Christ, for his death and resurrection, for your life-giving Sprit and the hope of sharing in your glory.
