Celebrating Life Through Divine Worship

Second Sunday after Pentecost

10:00 am, June 26, 2011

The time of centering: O God, make the door of this house wide enough to receive all who need human love and fellowship, narrow enough to shut out envy, pride and strife.  Make its threshold smooth enough to be no stumbling block to children nor to straying feet, but rugged and strong enough to turn back evils’ power.  God, make the door of this house the gateway to your eternal kingdom.

PRELUDE                                    Worship begins as the music is played

ENTRANCE OF THE LIGHT

INVOCATION

Wondrous God, our hearts are full of praise for all of the glorious things you have given to us.  When we look upon your creation, we realize that it reflects your glory.  When we experience the gift of a parents’ love, we are reminded of your tender love for us.  When we worship in the great congregation of all who name you as Lord, we are blessed to be counted among your children.  Hear our prayer of joy and thanksgiving this day and sustain in us grateful hearts, that we might praise you eternally.  Through Christ our Lord, Amen.

CALL TO WORSHIP

LEADER:  On this fine day, look up and look out -

PEOPLE:  See the people yearning for meaning, thirsting for truth, searching for God.

LEADER:   Look up and look far -

PEOPLE:  See the wounded bearing their grief; see the stranger longing to be welcomed; see the frightened fearing another rejection.

LEADER:  Look up and look within -

PEOPLE:  See the hurt within us that longs to be healed; see the sin that begs for forgiveness; see the timid part of ourselves that desires release and power.

LEADER: Look up and look deep –

PEOPLE: See Christ with arms opened wide, with eyes filled with love, with our name on His lips.

LEADER:  Look up and sing –

ALL:  Sing of God’s love that welcomes us and welcomes all.
