Celebrating Life Through Divine Worship

First Sunday after Pentecost - Father's Day

10:00 am, June 10, 2011

The time of centering: Come into God’s presence with thanksgiving and praise. For God has called us to this place and to this time of worship. We have heard God’s call and we rejoice that God draws us together in faith, secure in an eternal covenant.  Come into God’s presence with thanksgiving and praise. For God has given us his Son, Jesus, to be our good shepherd. We seek deeper faith and trust in order that we might be worthy to be called the flock of God’s own choosing.

INVOCATION

Holy God, through the indwelling of your Spirit you empower your Church. Forgive our uncertainty and lack of faith that often causes us to limit your power in this present age.  As we draw close to you in worship, Lord, we trust in your unfailing love; your forgiving love; your restoring love.  Amen

INTRODUCTION TO HYMN Words: John H. Sammis, 1887  Music: Daniel Tower

This song gives a simple, clear explanation of living the Christian life. The title expression was used in a testimony meeting, following an evangelical crusade in Brockton, Mass. by Dwight L. Moody. A young man stood to speak, and it soon became clear he knew little Christian doctrine. But he finished by saying, “I’m not quite sure—but I’m going to trust, and I’m going to obey.” Daniel Towner, who was in the meeting, jotted down the words, and gave them to John Sammis, who developed the lyrics from them.
