Celebrating Life through Divine Worship

Seventh Sunday of Easter

Ascension Sunday

10:00 AM     June 5, 2011

The time of centering:

Astounding Good News: Christ is alive! Easter is God’s shining light in our darkness.  Easter is hope washing over despair.  Easter is brimming over, flowing into each day and setting alleluias loose!  God is with us!  In the name of the living God, we welcome you to this worship service.

INVOCATION

God of peace, you have taught us that in coming to you we shall be saved and that in quiet confidence we shall know strength.  In this hour, and by your Spirit, be present to us.  Help us to be still and to know that you are God.  Amen.

CALL TO WORSHIP

LEADER:   Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, a descendant of David.

PEOPLE:  He endured that we might live with him.  He died that we might reign with him.

LEADER:   Most gracious God: On this day, when we celebrate your Son’s return to you in glory, we offer humble and joyous thanks for what he did for us and for all who would respond to his claim.
PEOPLE:  With his disciples, we behold with awestruck wonder his triumphant ascension, hailing him as a prophet, priest, and king.
LEADER:   He was faithful to you from first to last, even at the price of physical death.
ALL:   Keep us faithful with his help – in our worship, our witness, our service.  Amen

Exalted Lord, you reign in the high and holy place, but for your royal throne you choose people of humble heart.  We need not gaze into heaven to follow you, for you pledge to abide with all who live in your name.  Grant us grace to recognize your presence in the brothers and sisters with whom we live and worship.  At the last, permit us to know you face to face in glory.  Amen
