Celebrating Life through Divine Worship

Second Sunday of Easter, Communion

10:00 am, May 1, 2011

The time of centering:

Welcome as we gather together after a busy week.  Here, find comfort and hope.  Place your dreams and concerns on the table of blessings.  Here, find courage and renewal.  Give you questions and doubts to the living God.  Here, find a peace that lightens the load and restores the faith.  Come all in this place: become a family of love, a community of song, a people of prayer.  Welcome as we worship the risen God.

PRELUDE                                    Worship begins as the music is played

ENTRANCE OF THE LIGHT

INVOCATION

Eastertide is shouting, “Christ is risen!”  The living God is with us, comforting the troubled, healing the sick, forgiving the sinners, spreading the gospel of grace through the lips and lives of those made new. Easter People are called to live joyfully, walk expectantly, love faithfully, and sing triumphantly. Amen.

CALL TO WORSHIP

LEADER:   Praise God, who raised his Son from death!

PEOPLE:   Praise God!

PEOPLE:  Christ’s heart ached for Judas, for his tragic end.

LEADER:  Christ understood and pitied the missing Thomas.

PEOPLE:  Christ respected Thomas’ sorrow, his honest doubt; and Christ won Thomas back.

LEADER:   Christ’s mercy was vast; He never gave up on anyone.

PEOPLE:   God’s mercy is vast; He never gives up on anyone.

LEADER:   Christ is risen!

ALL:   He is risen indeed!  Hallelujah! Amen.

Unison Prayer

God of the Risen Christ, you love us so much as to raise Christ from the tomb.  In you we find only life and grace.  You grant peace in the midst of chaos. You give forgiveness. You welcome us back when we have been faithless.  Bring us your peace and lead us to forgive others.  Carry us through our times of doubt.  Help us live as Easter People.  In the name of the Risen One, we pray.  Amen.

SOFTBALL SIGN-UP

It is time once again to form our team and participate in the Smithville Inter-Church Softball League. We play for 8 weeks, every Monday night in June and July. Times vary, some weeks games begin at 6:30 pm and some weeks at 8:15 pm. We will have one "buy" week and one week with a double-header.

Vacations and Vacation Bible School make staffing the outfield during these two months difficult. I need a minimum head count of 20 players so that we can rotate players and cover those who cannot play every week. Please call or send an email to join the team! We will provide child care at the church and have plenty of water in the dug-out. Look forward to hearing from you.
