Eastertide is shouting,
“Christ is risen!” The living God is with us, comforting the troubled, healing
the sick, forgiving the sinners, spreading the gospel of grace through the lips
and lives of those made new. Easter People are called to live joyfully, walk
expectantly, love faithfully, and sing triumphantly. Amen.

God of the
Risen Christ, you love us so much as to raise Christ from the tomb. In you we
find only life and grace. You grant peace in the midst of chaos. You give
forgiveness. You welcome us back when we have been faithless. Bring us your
peace and lead us to forgive others. Carry us through our times of doubt.

Steps Preschool still has grocery coupon books for sale. There are 7 Big V
Country Mart books. Please see Ron Mast or Roberta Sanderson if you wish to
purchase one. The money will go towards new playground equipment.
ATTENTION ALL GRADUATES
SUMC
will be honoring all of the graduates from our church on Graduation Sunday, May
15th at the 10 am service. Please contact the office and let us know who you
are and where you are graduating from (high school, college, trade school,
etc.)
SUMC
has a need for Sunday school teachers. Curriculum is provided. Average time
commitment every week is two hours, one hour to prepare and one hour to teach.
Need is immediate. Please contact Ramona Emery if you can help.
Grand Avenue Temple
Help
feed the hungry on Saturday, May 7th. There are sign-up sheets in the Great
Room or contact Kerry Winans (816-665-8261) if you are interested in being part
of the team!
SAFE SANCTUARY WORKSHOP
On
Wednesday, May 11, 5:30 to 7:00 pm, Ramona Emery will be facilitating a Safe
Sanctuary workshop to provide assistance as persons complete the on-line Safe
Sanctuary training. This is a required training for all staff and volunteers
working with children and youth in the United Methodist Church. Please
notified Ramona or Ginger at the church office if you would like to participate
in this facilitated workshop. There is a cost of $25 to complete the online
training. If needed, the church will reimburse the training cost.
PRESCHOOL REGISTRATION
Small Steps Preschool is now registry for the
fall. Classes will be M/W/F for 4 & 5 year olds and T/Th for 3 & 4 year
olds (must be 3 by 8/1/11 & potty trained). Classes will be 9:00 to 11:45
am.
Registration fee is $65 (non-refundable)
but if you register by April 29th the fee is only $50. Registration forms are
available in the church office. Call the church office for more information.
BAPTISM SUNDAY
Sunday, May 8th will be Baptism
Sunday. We will be baptizing the children of David and Sarah Cline. Please
welcome Mason, Connor and Addison into our church family.
GRADUATION
Friday, May 13th, 6:30

Everyone is invited to
attend.
CHURCH CLEAN UP DAY
Saturday, May 14th, 8 am to 12 pm.
We
will be pick up trash, cutting downed tree limbs, fix the front landscape and
gluing snow pyramids onto the roof.
Everyone
is encouraged to participate.
SOFTBALL SIGN-UP
It
is time once again to form our team and participate in the Smithville
Inter-Church Softball League. We play for 8 weeks, every Monday night in June
and July. Times vary, some weeks games begin at 6:30 pm and some weeks at 8:15
pm. We will have one "buy" week and one week with a double-header.
Vacations
and Vacation Bible School make staffing the outfield during these two months
difficult. I need a minimum head count of 20 players so that we can rotate
players and cover those who cannot play every week. Please call or send an email
to join the team! We will provide child care at the church and have plenty of
water in the dug-out. Look forward to hearing from you.
