The time of centering: Holy God, in this season that commemorates the life and ministry of
Jesus, remind us that His ministry is always and ever actively reaching out
toward us. And in this hour of worship, help us to be open to the challenges
of his words, the power of his healing, and the opportunity to labor alongside
him as both Savior and friend. Amen.

God of infinite tenderness and strong compassion, weave

You are our light, O God. In your presence our lives are
illuminated, our way becomes clearer. Our own light comes from you: like small
candles lit from the Christ candle on Christmas Eve, we are able to shine your
love and hope because you love us and give us reason to hope. Radiate through
us with your holy love and wisdom, healing the hurts of the past, giving
courage for the future. Warm our coldness; relax tight muscles; give us
clarity and peace. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ, who came to reveal
your light to the world. Amen.

There
will be a book signing for George Urquhart's new book, "Reasons to
Believe" today, February 6th after church. The cost of the book is $12.oo
and all proceeds will be donated to the church.
You
still have an opportunity to fill out your time and talent survey. There will
be a laptop computer available after the worship service in the back of the
Great Room if you wish to do the survey electronically or you can go to the
church website, smithvilleumc.com, and look at the top right corner for
the survey. You may also request a paper copy from the office.
FUNDRAISER FOR SMALL
STEPS PRESCHOOL
Small
Steps Preschool will be selling coupon books to Big V Country Mart and Hy-Vee
grocery stores for $5.00 each. There will be a table in the back of the Great
Room for you to purchase your books after the worship service thru the month of
February.

WELCOMING BRUNCH
Recent
Visitors to SUMC and anyone wishing to explore joining SUMC are invited to a Welcoming
Brunch at 9:00 am on Sunday, February 27th. The brunch is sponsored by
the Outreach Committee and will offer a time of fellowship with Pastor Kathy,
Sharon Fairlie (Lay Leader), and members of the Outreach Committee. We will
meet in the Senior High Room. For more information, call the church office or
contact Beth Lyman.
The
Combined Community Chorus will begin practice on Monday, February 7th at the
Broadway United Methodist Church in Plattsburg. Practices are every Monday at 7
pm. Every third Monday practices will be at the First Baptist Church in
Smithville. The group is under the direction of Carmen Bennett and will be
performing "Like A Lamb" by Chris Machen. The band and choir combine
the efforts of many vocalists and musicians from Plattsburg, Lathrop, Gower,
Smithville and the surrounding area. The chorus will perform in Plattsburg,
Lathrop and Smithville this year, making their 68th season. All ages are
welcome to sing with the group. New members are encouraged. For more
