Celebrating Life through Divine Worship

1st Sunday after Epiphany Sunday

10:00 AM  January 9, 2011

The time of centering: Holy God, in this season that commemorates the life and ministry of Jesus, remind us that His ministry is always and ever actively reaching out toward us.  And in this hour of worship, help us to be open to the challenges of his words, the power of his healing, and the opportunity to labor alongside him as both Savior and friend.  Amen.

PRELUDE - As the music begins, our worship service begins.

ENTRANCE OF THE LIGHT

INVOCATION

Gracious and all loving God - you call to us across deep waters and dark places and affirm our being.  Yours is the light which guides us and the voice which we follow.  We pray that you would reveal yourself to us as we worship you. May those without hope be encouraged; those who are sad, cheered; those who are seeking, find you; and may all things be according to your will. In the name of your beloved Son we pray. Amen.

WELCOME

WINTER RETREAT

The Cornerstone class is sponsoring the annual retreat at Wilderness Camp the weekend of January 14-16th. It is a time of study, relaxation, reflection, food, movies, music and fellowship. It is a family event, so everyone is welcome. We share meal preparation (and cleanup!) and planning. For information please Lee or Cindy Hunold. The retreat starts Friday late afternoon and runs through Sunday noon.

If you are not ready to commit to an overnight retreat, consider a day visit on Saturday.  We'll have a Bible-based study session during late morning, then lunch around noon, and then free time to hike or socialize of play ping pong or other games until another study session begins in late afternoon.  Directions to Wilderness Retreat & Development Center: Go east on Hwy 92 through Kearney to the northern edge of Excelsior Springs and turn left (north) onto Hwy 69.  Continue north on Hwy 69 for 5 miles then turn right (east) on MO D and drive (slowly) through Lawson.  About 3 miles east of Lawson you reach a T-intersection with MOC, turn left (north) onto MO C and after 0.1 mile take the first right (east) to continue east on MO D (think of this as a jog in MO D). Continue on MO D another1.4 miles -- the road will turn twice and you may see signs for Wilderness Retreat, then turn left (north) onto Wilderness Camp Road and follow it for a mile.  When you enter the property you will first see the caretakers home.  Go through the gate and watch for a sign which lists which of two lodges we are in:  either Trinity or Holy Spirit.

WOW YOUTH RETREAT

The SUMC Youth (6 will be attending) will be joining hundreds of other young Christians in Springfield, MO January 21-23 to worship, celebrate and have good clean fun. Also, the Youth Group thanks the church for you continued support i.e. Christmas brunch and other fundraisers so we are able to attend events such as these that we are offered by the conference.

On Sunday, January 30th as part of our Celebration Sunday there will be a potluck dinner after church to kick off the Time and Talent Survey.
